    Influence of the nucleon spectral function in photon and electron induced reactions on nuclei

    We study the influence of the nucleon spectral function on eta photo- and electroproduction on nuclei. Besides kinematical effects due to groundstate correlations, also a modification of the S11(1535) decay width is taken into account, which is caused by the possible decay into nucleons with mass smaller than the pole mass in the medium. Hence, resonances with masses below the free N eta threshold can contribute to eta production.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figure

    Multi-electrode spark switches can be used for switching applications at elevated voltages or for command triggering. Symmetrical field graded electrodes allow the electrical stress across individual gaps to be controlled, thus maximising the hold off voltage and reducing switch pre-fire. The paper considers some aspects of multielectrode switch design and their influence on switching behavior. Non-symmetrical, uni-directional electrode topologies can be employed with advantages over traditional symmetrical design. The choice of working gas and gas pressure can influence switching performance in terms of delay-time and jitter. Transient analysis of switch characteristics has been undertaken in order to understand multi-electrode switching

    This research was published by the KU Center for Research on Learning, formerly known as the University of Kansas Institute for Research in Learning Disabilities.This paper examines the developmental history of programs for mildly mentally retarded and learning disabled adolescents. Curriculum/instructional alternatives are discussed and a rationale presented for consideration of a student's educational history when making instructional decisions. This rationale is predicated on the perspective that many mildly handicapped students have not been subjected to intensive instruction during their school years despite having received special educational services. Characteristics of intensive instruction and options for the implementation of such instruction is presented

    Nuclear matter hole spectral function in the Bethe-Brueckner-Goldstone approach

    The hole spectral function is calculated in nuclear matter to assess the relevance of nucleon-nucleon short range correlations. The calculation is carried out within the Brueckner scheme of many-body theory by using several nucleon-nucleon realistic interactions. Results are compared with other approaches based on variational methods and transport theory. Discrepancies appear in the high energy region, which is sensitive to short range correlations, and are due to the different many-body treatment more than to the specific N-N interaction used. Another conclusion is that the momentum dependence of the G-matrix should be taken into account in any self consistent approach.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
